In every century, every continent, and across cultures, some version of this ‘meaning of life’ quandary has found its way into human thought and heart.
Because this isn’t just a thinking brain question. No, this one goes deep. It uses all three of our neurological centers; the head, the heart, and the gut. In other words, it makes you think, feel, and react. It’s a big question and elicits a deep response from within our very souls.
If you are struggling with finding the answer to this question, here is what you need to know:
You are not alone.
If life feels aimless and confusing…maybe like being blindfolded in a maze with noise-canceling headphones on…. I get it. And so do a lot of other humans. At some point on the journey of life, you will inevitably wrestle with the question of your purpose.
- When you’ve done all the “expected” things and one day they just don’t equal the satisfaction you were hoping for.
- Or when you thought life was heading in the right direction only to encounter a major (and sometimes traumatic) detour.
You must keep going.
Here is my first encouragement to you… DON’T STOP SEARCHING! Don’t give up, no matter how old you are, how hard life has gotten, or how pointless it seems. You are on the right path because you are asking the right question. Congratulations! Keep going! Asking this question is a powerful first step.
Because here is what I know to be 1000% true…
You have a purpose.
You do!! I’m certain of it because I believe that you were created with specific talents, interests, passions, empathies, and influences. These unique ingredients are combined to create a one-of-a-kind personal purpose that only you can fulfill. The world needs you to activate and live in this deep soul satisfying purpose.
A Personal Reflection Exercise
Here are some questions for you to ponder as you discover your personal purpose:
- What have I always enjoyed doing?
- What type of “actions” do I do so naturally that I hardly notice?
- What situation or circumstance in the world breaks my heart?
- What gives me the greatest joy?
- Who do I notice that other people may ignore?
- Who are the most important people in my life?
- Who in the world would I love to impact?
- If I could change just one thing about the world, what would it be?
- What am I uniquely able to do in my circle of influence?
- What have other people told me I am good at doing?
Once you’ve had a chance to reflect on these questions, your personal purpose may start to come to light. If you’d like to go a little deeper and have more guidance, we’d love for you to check out our website for some more free resources and our personalized course called, “The Power of Purpose”.
